ஹாங்காங் பகுதியில் ஆதிக்கம் செலுத்துவதற்காக தேசிய பாதுகாப்பு சட்டத்தை ஜி ஜின்பிங் தலைமையிலான அரசு கொண்டு வந்தது. இதை எதிர்த்து ஹாங்காங் மக்கள் தொடர்ந்து போராட்டங்களில் ஈடுபட்டு வருகின்றனர். தேசிய பாதுகாப்பு சட்டம் தொடர்பான விவகாரத்தில் நடிகர் ஜாக்கி சான் சீனாவுக்கு ஆதரவான கருத்தை வெளிப்படுத்தினார். இதனைத் தொடர்ந்து அவர்மீது கடுமையான விமர்சனங்களை அரசியல் விமர்சகர்கள் உட்பட பலரும் முன் வைத்தனர். இதே விஷயத்தில் கடந்த 2019-ம் ஆண்டு ஜாக்கி சான், “ஹாங்காங் மற்றும் சீனா ஆகியவை நான் பிறந்த நாடுகள். சீனா என்னுடைய நாடு. நான் எனது நாட்டை நேசிக்கிறேன். எனது வீட்டை நேசிக்கிறேன். ஹாங்காங் விரைவில் அமைதிக்கு திரும்பும் என்ற நம்பிக்கையுடன் உள்ளேன்” என்று தெரிவித்தார். இந்த சட்டத்துக்கு எதிராக அமெரிக்கா உள்ளிட்ட முன்னணி நாடுகள் தங்களது கருத்துக்களை தெரிவித்தன. இந்த சட்டத்தின் கீழ் ஏராளமான போராட்டக்காரர்கள் மற்றும் தலைவர்கள் கைது செய்யப்பட்டு சிறையில் அடைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளனர்.
