ஓவியர் கோபுலு: போகோ சேனல் முதல் 1950-களின் மீம் கிரியேட்டர் வரை… 7 சுவாரஸ்யங்கள்!

தமிழ் பத்திரிகை உலகில் நகைச்சுவை ஓவியங்களுக்குப் புத்தொளி பாய்ச்சி ஓவியர் கோபுலுவின் பிறந்தநாள் இன்று. ஓவியர் கோபுலு பற்றிய சுவாரஸ்யமான 7 தகவல்கள்.

  1. 1924-ல் தஞ்சாவூரில் பிறந்த கோபாலன் என்ற இயற்பெயருடைய கோபுலு, கும்பகோணம் அரசு கலைக்கல்லூரியில் படிப்பை முடித்தவர். கையெழுத்துப் பத்திரிகைகள் நடத்தி வந்த அவர், ஓவியர் மாலியை மானசீகக் குருவாக ஏற்றுக்கொண்டவர். அவர்தான், கோபாலன் என்ற இவர் பெயரை `கோபுலு’ என்று மாற்றியவர்.

2.1941-ல் இவர் வரைந்த தியாகராஜ சுவாமிகள் தன் வீட்டில் பூஜை செய்துவந்த `ராமர் பட்டாபிஷேகம்’ படம் ரொம்ப புகழ்பெற்றது. அந்தப் படத்தை வரைந்தபோது இவருக்கு வயது 16.

  1. புத்தகங்கள் மீது தீராக் காதல் கொண்ட இவர், எழுத்தாளர் தேவனின் துப்பறியும் சாம்பு, கொத்தமங்கலம் சுப்புவின் தில்லானா மோகானாம்பாள், சாவியின் வாஷிங்டனில் திருமணம் போன்ற புகழ்பெற்ற நாவல் கதாபாத்திரங்களுக்குத் தனது ஓவியத்தின் மூலம் உயிர்கொடுத்தவர்.
  2. ஓவியராகத் தமிழின் முன்னணி இதழ்கள் பலவற்றிலும் பணியாற்றியவர். ஆனந்தவிகடன், குமுதம், குங்குமம், கல்கி, அமுதசுரபி என இவரின் ஓவியங்கள் அலங்கரித்த பத்திரிகைகள் ரொம்பவே நீளம். இப்போதைய மீம் கிரியேட்டர்களுக்கெல்லாம் முன்னோடி. 1950-களிலேயே கேலிச்சித்திரங்கள் மூலம் புகழ்பெற்றவர்.
  3. நகைச்சுவை ஓவியங்களில் புதிய பாணியைக் கொண்டுவந்தவர். ஒவ்வொரு ஓவியத்திலும் ஏராளமான கூறுகள் இருக்கும். அன்றாட வாழ்வின் மனிதர்கள் எதிர்க்கொள்ளும் சின்ன சின்னத் தருணங்கள், மேன்மைகள், மனித இயல்பின் விசித்திரம் போன்றவை இவரது ஓவியத்தின் முக்கிய கருப்பொருள்கள். `ஒரு ஏரியாவிலிருந்து மற்றொரு ஏரியாவுக்கு வந்து ஏரியா நாய்களிடம் மாட்டிக்கொள்ளும் அந்நிய நாயின் முகபாவம், தனது கையில் பேப்பர் இருந்தும் பக்கத்தில் இருப்பவரின் செய்தித் தாளை நோட்டமிடுபவரின் ரியாக்‌ஷன், கூட்டமான ரயில்வே ஸ்டேஷன் பிளாட்ஃபார்மில் மூட்டை, முடிச்சுகளோடு நெருக்கித் தள்ளும் மனிதர்களின் விதவிதமான முகபாவங்கள் – இப்படி தான் வரைந்த ஒவ்வொரு ஓவியத்திலும் ரொம்பவும் தெளிவான டீடெய்லிங் கொடுத்திருப்பார்.
  4. சுமார் 20 ஆண்டுகளுக்கும் மேலான இதழியல் பயணத்தில் இருந்து விலகி 1963-ல் விளம்பரத் துறையில் இணைந்தார். 1972-ல் கோபுலு ஆட்வேவ் அட்வர்டைசிங் என்ற நிறுவனத்தைத் தொடங்கினார். குங்குமம், சன் டிவி தொடங்கி பல புகழ்பெற்ற சேனல்களின் லோகோ இவர் கைவண்ணத்தில் உருவாகியதுதான். அமெரிக்க ஓவியர் நார்மன் லாக்வெல், பிரபல கார்ட்டூனிஸ்ட் டேவிட் லோ போன்றவர்கள் ஓவியங்களை சிலாகத்தவர். அதேபோல், அமெரிக்க நகைச்சுவை எழுத்தாளரும் கார்ட்டூனிஸ்டுமான ஜேம்ஸ் தர்பரைத் தனது ஆதர்சமானவர் என்று கோபுலுவே ஒரு பேட்டியில் குறிப்பிட்டிருக்கிறார்.
  5. குழந்தைகள் உலகை இவர் புரிந்து வைத்திருக்கும் விதம் அபாரமானது. போகோ சேனலைத்தான் அதிக நேரம் பார்ப்பேன் என்று அடிக்கடி சொல்லுவார். 2002-ல் பக்கவாதம் வந்து வலது கை முடங்கியபோது, இடது கையால் தொடர்ந்து வரைந்தார். பத்தாயிரத்துக்கும் மேற்பட்ட இவரது ஓவியங்கள் அழியாப் புகழ்பெற்றவை. மருத்துவமனையில் அனுமதிக்கப்பட்டிருந்தபோது, தன்னைப் பார்க்க வந்தவர்களிடம், `எனது ஓவியங்களை கோபுலு ஸ்ட்ரோக் என்பார்கள், இப்போது கோபுலுவுக்கே ஸ்ட்ரோக் வந்துவிட்டது’ என்று நகைச்சுவையாகக் குறிப்பிட்டவர். உடல்நலக் குறைவால் பாதிக்கப்பட்டிருந்த கோபுலு 2015ம் ஆண்டு ஏப்ரல் 29-ம் தேதி சென்னையில் காலமானார்.
