இந்திய அளவில் வாழ்வதற்கு சிறந்த நகரங்கள் பட்டியலில் சென்னை நான்காவது இடத்தைப் பிடித்திருக்கிறது. கோவை 7-வது இடத்தில் இருக்கிறது.

தேசிய அளவில் ஸ்மார்ட் சிட்டி திட்டத்தின் கீழ் மத்திய வீட்டு வசதி மற்றும் நகர்ப்புற வளர்ச்சி அமைச்சகம் இந்திய அளவில் வாழ்வதற்கான சிறந்த நகரங்கள் குறித்து ஆய்வு நடத்தியது. மக்களின் வாழ்க்கைத் திறன், சுகாதார மேம்பாடு மற்றும் திடக்கழிவு மேலாண்மை உள்ளிட்ட பல்வேறு காரணிகள் அடிப்படையில் பிப்ரவரி ஒன்றாம் தேதி முதல் 28-ம் தேதி வரை நடத்தப்பட்டது.

பத்து லட்சத்துக்கும் அதிகமான மக்கள் தொகை, பத்து லட்சத்துக்கும் குறைவான மக்கள் தொகை கொண்ட நகரங்கள் என இரண்டு பிரிவுகளில் இந்த ஆய்வு நடத்தப்பட்டது. ஆன்லைன் மூலமாகவும் நேரடியாகவும் நடத்தப்பட்ட இந்த ஆய்வில் மக்கள் கலந்துகொண்டு வாக்களித்தனர். தமிழகத்தில் இருந்து மட்டும் சுமார் 7 லட்சத்துக்கும் மேற்பட்டோர் இந்த ஆய்வில் கலந்துகொண்டு தங்களுக்கு விருப்பமான நகரங்களைத் தேர்வு செய்தனர்.

பத்து லட்சத்துக்கும் அதிகமான மக்கள் தொகை கொண்ட நகரங்களில் கர்நாடகத் தலைநகர் பெங்களூர் முதலிடத்தையும் மகாராஷ்டிரா மாநிலம் புனே இரண்டாவது இடத்தையும் பிடித்திருக்கின்றன. குஜராத்தின் அகமதாபாத் மூன்றாவது இடத்தையும் சென்னை நான்காவது இடத்திலும் இருக்கின்றன. இந்தப் பட்டியலில் கோவை 7வது இடத்தைப் பிடித்திருக்கிறது. இவைதவிர, தலைநகர் டெல்லி 13-வது இடத்திலும், மதுரை 22-வது இடத்திலும் இருக்கின்றன. இந்தப் பட்டியலில் ஸ்ரீநகர், தான்பத், பெய்ரலி ஆகிய நகரங்கள் மோசமான இடங்களைப் பிடித்திருக்கின்றன.

பத்து லட்சத்துக்கும் குறைவான மக்கள் தொகை கொண்ட நகரங்களுக்கான பட்டியலில் இமாச்சலப்பிரதேசத்தின் ஷிம்லா முதலிடத்தில் இருக்கிறது. அதற்கடுத்த இடங்களில் புவனேஸ்வர், சில்வாஸா, காக்கிநாடா ஆகிய நகரங்கள் இருக்கின்றன. இந்தப் பட்டியலில் சேலம், வேலூர் ஆகிய நகரங்கள் 5, 6 ஆகிய இடங்களில் இருக்கின்றன. திருச்சி 10வது இடத்திலும் புதுச்சேரி 13வது இடமும் பிடித்திருக்கின்றன. அதற்கடுத்தபடியாக, திருநெல்வேலி, திருப்பூர் ஆகிய நகரங்கள் முறையே 17 மற்றும் 18 ஆகிய இடங்களில் இருக்கின்றன. திருவனந்தபுரம் 21வது இடத்தையும் ஈரோடு 24வது இடத்தையும் பிடித்திருக்கின்றன. மேலும், தஞ்சாவூர், தூத்துக்குடி, திண்டுக்கல் ஆகிய நகரங்கள் முறையே 31, 43, 56 ஆகிய இடங்களில் இருக்கின்றன.
